Ripple’s Brad Garlinghouse talks about the reasons behind its success

On 23rd August, the Chief Executive Officer of Ripple, Brad Garlinghouse, and its Chief Marketing Strategist, Cory Johnson conducted an Ask Me Anything [AMA] session wherein the CEO took questions from the users online. Here, the subjects touched by the duo were Brad’s favorite leaders driving inspiration, and the corridor for xRapid, among others.

One of the questions posed by the online users was who are the top leaders in Brad’s opinion that have been known to execute greatness. To this, Brad replied by naming Reid Hoffman and Sheryl Sandberg. Hoffman is the Founder of the popular business social media network, LinkedIn and a board member at Microsoft while Sandberg is the Chief Operating Officer at Facebook. In his words:

“You know I’ll highlight two… I think incredibly highly of Reid Hoffman. I think he has been a stalwart guy of Silicon Valley and it’s just you know, his product is demonstrative of the big-heartedness like he is a connector and networker.”

The CEO also mentioned that Hoffman has not run a large organization since he handed over the reins of LinkedIn to Jeff Weiner, the current leader of the company. Brad further stated:

“Another leader who I just had a lot of respect for is Sheryl Sandberg. Certainly, Facebook’s had a complicated 2018 and I think you know, the Grace and execution there… the results are astounding.”

The subject shifted to Ripple’s own success where Brad explained the reason for it to be the focused mindset of the team. He also added that his experience in the Silicon Valley also contributed to Ripple’s success. There, he observed that a number of blockchain firms were attempting too much in a small time frame. He explained:

“Our focus and clarity of the problem we’re solving and the customer we’re reaching I think has catalyzed and kind of accelerated the adoption that we’re now seeing and enjoying and the reason why I think Q2 is so strong for the company.”

The conversation also included xRapid and Brad’s viewpoint on the target audience for the services of the product. Brad believes that xRapid has a potential to serve in corridors with less efficiency. He concluded the subject, saying:

“I don’t think that X rapid solving a dollar-yen problem is going to be you know a short-term corridor. let’s not say it won’t be but it’s simply what we’re seeing and what we’ve publicly talked about with coins pH as going to the Philippines, Mexico… Those are corridors we see the demand and we see it solving a real problem.”
