Trezor adds support for Monero (XMR)
It will be available only for the Model T
The Monero (XMR) community is excited to know that crypto hardware wallet company Trezor has added support for the privacy-focused digital currency. The announcement was made by the CTO of SatoshiLabs and Trezor developer, Pavol Rusnak, in a tweet he posted on October 28.
“It’s 28th of October and everybody is celebrating the 100th anniversary of Czechoslovakia. Meanwhile, I am finalizing the new firmware for Trezor, which will be released tomorrow. Independent organizational structures built on top of a truly decentralized economy are the future!” Rusnak said, while sharing a photo of a Trezor Model T that displays a confirmation screen for sending a transaction in XMR.
However, the update will come to the aforementioned model, only. Pavol confirmed this to several users who asked whether the previous model, Trezor One, will also see the addition of this crypto asset, and it is unlikely that the update ever comes to it.
One of the pending things before the release of this firmware is the review of the changes made by the Trezor dev team to the monero-wallet-cli (Monero’s wallet software), by developers of this blockchain project, and once merged, it should be ready for rolling out. On the other hand, the firmware is already live on the beta wallet of Trezor for public testing.
Those who wish to update to the new firmware once it is released, can do it by putting their device in bootloader mode. This is done by sliding the finger on the display upwards while plugging in the USB cable on the device. Then, confirm the connection.
Next, on the web wallet, users will be prompted to read the instructions and warnings to make sure they have their recovery seed available in case they need them for recovering the wallet. Once confirmed and checked all due boxes, they can click on Update my device, and confirm the update in the device.
With this new firmware, Monero is finally supported by the two most important cryptocurrency hardware wallet developers – the other being Ledger in the Nano S device.
